*Call to Worship

L:  We are all called to go and share Christ’s love with the world.

P:  We gather to grow deeper in faith.

L:  We learn to recognize grace everywhere, in every life.

P:  We wait for God’s saving love.

L:  We remember our purpose through the means of grace.

P:  God’s love is remaking the world!

Hymn                    Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;

wean it from earth; through all its pulses move;

stoop to my weakness, mighty as thou art,

an make me love thee as I ought to love.

I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,

no sudden rending of the veil of clay,

no angel visitant, no opening skies;

but take the dimness of my soul away.

Hast thou not bid me love thee, God and King?

All, all thine own, soul, heart and strength and mind.

I see thy cross; there teach my heart to cling.

O let me seek thee, and O let me find!

Teach me to feel that thou art always nigh;

teach me the struggles of the soul to bear.

To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh,

teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

Teach me to love thee as thine angels love,

one holy passion filling all my frame;

the kindling of the heaven descended Dove,

my heart an altar, and thy love the flame.

Opening Prayer

O God, in mystery and silence you are present in our lives, bringing us new life out of destruction, hope out of despair, growth out of difficulty.  We thank you that you do not leave us alone but work to make us whole.  Help us to sense your unseen hand in the unfolding of our lives, and to pay attention to the gentle guidance of your Spirit, that we may know the joy you give to us, your people.  Amen.

L:  From the beginning, God entered into a covenant with the human family:

With Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah,

Moses, Deborah, Ruth and Jeremiah.

P:  Through baptism, Jesus Christ calls us into the covenant

and makes us ministers of Christ’s righteousness.

L:  All Christian ministry is Christ’s work of outreaching love.

It demonstrates a common life of gratitude and devotion,

witness and service, celebration and discipleship.

P:  The Church, as the community of the new covenant,

participates in Christ’s ministry of grace.

L:  It stretches out to human needs

Wherever service may convey God’s love and ours.

P:  In our ministry of servanthood is this ultimate concern:
