Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, You, who created us, who sustains us, who calls us to live in peace, hear our prayer this day.  We gather to praise you and to remember all who have served and are serving to preserve our freedom so that we can be in this place of worship.  We celebrate the lives of those men and women who put the welfare of others ahead of their own.  Give us hearts as generous as theirs.  Help us to shape and make a world where we turn our swords into ploughshares for a harvest of justice and peace.  You have told us that the nation is blessed whose God is the Lord and therefore, we pray that Your Gospel, which alone can make men truly free, may be preached in all its truth and purity.  May all people hear the good news of salvation in Christ.  In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.  Amen.
