Philippi UMC Outreach Projects

Outreach Projects

UM Volunteers in Mission
Our church is a proud sponsor of the Volunteers in Mission.  We were able to send one of our church members to participate with this mission program in December of 2007.  This program helps those who are in need and has mission trips all over the world.  The primary focus of this team has been to assist those who have been displaced by the effects of Hurricane Katrina.  Even after two years, there are still individuals and families in need of our help.

Kettle of Love Soup Project

This project helps us to reach those that are homebound by providing soup to them and also provides them an opportunity for fellowship with our church volunteers.  The soup project starts in the fall and meets once a month.  All of the soup is homemade by our volunteers in our kitchen facilities.

United Methodist Women Visitations

Our United Methodist Women meet once a month to visit shut-ins and individuals who are in local nursing homes.  This outreach provides an opportunity of fellowship with our United Methodist Women, as well as an opportunity for us to raise each others’ spirits.

This is an annual music event that allows area Christian singers and groups minister to the public through the power of music.  This continues to be an uplifting experience for the community.  This event takes place in the fall of each year.

Boy Scouts of America

Our church provides meeting facilities for our local Cub and Boy Scout Troops.  This affiliation has been a staple of our outreach program for the past 25 years.  There have been several scouts that have been promoted to Eagle Scout.

Operation Christmas Child

This outreach project's purpose is bring joy and hope to disadvantaged children all over the world.  In November 2007, this church had 13 shoe boxes to help children in 3rd world countries.  A blessing was given by Pastor Alicia Rapking before they were mailed.
