Message from Pastor Tim
Greetings in the name of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ!
I am excited that starting this July we will begin our ministry together for the glory of God. As we begin this great journey, I pray that “the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that we may know the hope to which Christ has called us, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe” (Ephesians 1:18-19), and that God’s Spirit may fall a fresh upon us to petition the full revelation of Christ in our hearts, minds, and souls.
To that end our journey together toward holiness and servanthood must involve a daily study of scripture, a life of prayer, and moments of reflection as to the shape and form of our grace filled response to God’s call of making Disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. Therefore, we must ask ourselves every day whether we are resting upon the firm foundation of Christ or are we resting upon the slippery foundation of ourselves. Too, we must ask, does Christ have a relationship with me, and does the love of Christ affect the way I live? These are important questions for us because discipleship is built on Jesus Christ, whose Spirit is ever on the move leading us into new experiences of faith, hope, joy, faithfulness and love!
Without a doubt, my own journey has been both exasperating and exciting, but I have come to know God‘s love and grace more and more as I have searched scriptures and spent time in prayer. And even though my journey, particularly my call to ordained ministry, has extend over a long period of time, I have discovered this to be God’s plan of bringing me into alignment with God’s purpose for my life. Early in my recognition of this call, I struggled with feelings of apprehension and confusion as to what God was urging me to do. Thankfully, however, I came to a point in my journey where I realized the need to surrender to this calling. In response I have let go of my apprehensions and found freedom through grace. In the words of the hymn, I now shout,
I heard an old, old, story, how a Savior came
from glory, how he gave his life on Calvary
to save a wretch like me; I heard about his
groaning, of his precious blood’s atoning,
then I repented of my sins and won the victory.
Having said that, I want you to know how much I appreciate the gift of you. The glory of the church is the endless proclamation of God’s salvation. It is the greatest institution that any person could be part of. It is a communal institution whereby the blind receive sight, the lame are healed, the hungry fed, and the poor and meek find shelter. Quite simply it is where God meets the world! So, may our journey together be always filled with God’s ever moving and present Spirit as we fulfill our calling of making Disciples of Christ!
Yours in the journey,
Pastor Tim
